Once signed up, you’ll receive the zoom link for Friday and further instructions for the outdoor walk on Friday. Participating is extremely simple, requires absolutely no prior knowledge or experience, is open to anyone who is interested, and who is willing to volunteer for this project/presentation. Thank you so much!

Idea

The project asks a number of volunteering participants to take a walk in the outdoors, individually, each in their respective location, but all of them at the exact same time (this Friday, 10:30am). Each participant will be recording, in video and audio, their walking in their neighborhood. Where they walk, how fast/slow the move, will be “determined” – that is, dictated (!) – by a random algorithm that pretends “knowing” where participants might be, but in fact, does not. This is what ‘media score’ means: the participants will follow audio and video cues that tell them, where to go. The participants, after having completed this 15min walk through the out-of-doors, will upload their recorded video file from their phone and share it with the author who will assemble all videos sent to them in a large-scale collage.
This project is about the impossibility of representing each individual experience of the outdoor walk within a digital media assemblage. The resulting collage will be screened this Friday afternoon at 2pm at the SloMoCo meeting/presentation.
